Crazy 2012: Three Resident Evils in a Year

2012 is indeed an intense year for the video game industry. Lots of phenomenal titles are being released so wildly fast. This includes Capcom beastly barrage, three Resident Evils release in the same year! You must have known what Resident Evil are going to be released. Even though they carry different gameplay, they still share the title as series of Resident Evil. Since Resident Evil is a famous franchise, started back in the PSX days, three simultaneous releases in a year really excites RE’s die-hard fans.

Resident Evil Revelations

The one that is closest to release date is Resident Evil Revelations. The Japanese version of the game will be released in a few days while America will get its version on February 7th 2012. It is a Nintendo 3DS release on Resident Evil. Capcom has made sure that the game will run smoothly and delivers its best performance for 3DS since Capcom has tested 3DS with its previous installment of Resident Evil, The Mercenaries 3D. The game will combine various survival elements caught back in the early series plus the new groundbreaking system. It has been revealed that the game can support Nintendo circle pad, but it is not necesarily essential if you want to play the game. There are two demos available, one that was released with The Mercenaries 3D and one that can be downloaded in Nintendo eShop with no extra charge starting from last Thursday, January 19th 2012. This is the second most awaited Resident Evil in 2012 right after the inglorious Resident Evil 6.

The second release of Resident Evil this year is Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City. It is considered a spin-off game since it tells about alternate story regarding the Raccoon City outbreak back in 1998 along with new characters and plot. The game itself is developed by Slant Six Games, the developer of the SOCOM series. Operation Raccoon City allows players to engage in four-player co-op mode and also competitive multiplayer matches. Slant Six Game replaces the survival horror elements with survival frantic fun. Just like SOCOM 4, it is presented in third-person view and centers in the frantic shooting fun. Operation Raccoon City is the least expected Resident Evil of this year. It will be released for Windows, Xbox 360, and PS3 in the middle of March.

Resident Evil 6 is the most anticipated Resident Evil of this year. Capcom surely gives a hell pack of a surprise punch since they cleverly released an overwhelming trailer with release date in it a few days ago without prior notice. The trailer leaves us with dozens of questions left unanswered such as the return of classic characters from early Resident Evil series, gameplay, and multiplayer elements. Capcom has surely put a great deal of effort in developing this game. Surely, Resident Evil 6 will have a two-player campaign co-op mode similar to its predecessor. But, it still has an unconfirmed rumor regarding six-player multiplayer co-op and up to eight-player competitive multiplayer mode, more likely to be mercenary mode or versus mode. We have to wait longer for Resident Evil 6, scheduled to land on November 20th 2012.
