Metal Gear Solid HD Collection for the Win!
One of the most anticipated Classics HD collection is Metal Gear Solid HD Collection. It is the collection of Metal Gear Solid series in PlayStation 2 along with Megal Gear Solid: Peace Walker that was released exclusively for PlayStation Portable. It was released for both PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. PlayStation Vita version will also be released, the date is to be announced. This game is a must-have for Metal Gear Solid freaks. No, a regular version is not enough for a true Metal Gear Solid fanatic, a limited edition of the game from all regions would be better!
The classics collection includes 4 classics and 1 port in HD. Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance and Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence from PS2, Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker port from the PSP, and 2 classic 8-bit Metal Gear games in MSX version, which are Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2. Metal Gear Solid HD Collection has different content for each region. The Japanese Cero edition does not include Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker HD in it. Instead, Konami gives Japanese gamers a redeem code to download the original Metal Gear Solid from PSN because Konami had already released a HD port of Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker earlier before MGS HD Collection release date.
The PlayStation 3 release and the Xbox 360 release has differences. PS3 players get a feature to transfer Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker’s save games from the PS3 version to PSP version and vice versa, allowing to continue the game’s progress in different systems. Metal Gear Solid 2 and Metal Gear Solid 3’s save games are also transferable to the upcoming handheld, PlayStation Vita. The Xbox 360 release gets additional 4 avatars for Xbox LIVE instead. They got the avatar of Metal Gear RAY, Shagohod, Peace Walker, and Tank Box.
Kojima Productions has improved the graphics of the classics collection so that it could fit the 720p resolution. Hence, the title. Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker’s control has also been revamped by Kojima Productions so that it would be more effective to use the PS3 and Xbox 360 controller. The contents are slightly different. In the HD version of Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence, Secret Theatre, Metal Gear Online, Boss Survival Mode, and Snake Vs. Monkey mini-game is not available. But, Look at the positive side. Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker is playable online in the PS3! Trophy and achievement is supported!
There are 3 limited edition versions of Metal Gear Solid HD Collection and a premium version of the Japanese Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker HD release. The Europe/PAL limited edition, North America’s limited edition, and premium edition for both Japanese version of MGS HD Collection and MGS: Peace Walker HD. North America’s limited edition includes an exclusive art book named “The Art of Metal Gear Solid” and special package design by the series’ lead artist, Yoji Shinkawa. The PAL limited edition consists of 250-page artbook by Yoji Shinkawa, exclusive steelbook packaging, and a limited Metal Gear Solid T-shirt. There are only 8000 copies for PlayStation 3 and 6000 copies for Xbox 360 copies. I think, the Japanese premium edition is so much better than the limited edition. The Japanese MGS HD Collection includes the game (obviously), illustration art from Yoji Shinkawa, a copy of ”The Art of Metal Gear Solid: The Original Trilogy”, soundtrack, headphones, bags, also MGS 2 and MGS 3 limited edition mug. The MGS: Peace Walker HD includes the game, a Peace Walker mug, soundtrack CD, Snake figure, and Kazuhira Miller figure by Play Arts Kai.
